We are delighted to see the Gotland sheep featured in the July 2026 edition of The Country Smallholder magazine. Originating from the Swedish island of Gotland, these remarkable sheep are renowned for their striking silver-grey fleeces, friendly temperament, and rich Viking heritage. The feature explores the history of the breed, their exceptional wool, and the growing popularity of Gotland sheep among smallholders and fibre enthusiasts across the UK. The article also highlights the work of the Gotland Sheep Association UK (GSAUK), which was established to promote and preserve the breed, support breeders and owners, and encourage wider recognition of these unique sheep. As interest in rare and heritage livestock continues to grow, Gotland sheep offer a wonderful combination of beauty, practicality, and character. Their lustrous fleece is highly prized by spinners, crafters, and textile artists, while their calm nature makes them a pleasure to keep. We are grateful to The Country Smallholder Magazine and Helen Babbs for helping to raise awareness of this exceptional breed. Our thanks also to GSAUK Secretary Tasha Maine for working with Helen on this article.
We will post the article once it is out of circulation in 4 weeks time.
